Brescia the art city
Day 1
In the morning: visit to the splendid Santa Giulia Museum, an ancient medieval abbey and one of Italy’s largest museums, which is home to permanent exhibits of Roman and Medieval art as well as presenting the “Spendore dell’arte” series of great modern art exhibits: in 2004 Monet, in 2005 Gauguin and Van Gogh, in 2006 Turner and Mondrian and in 2007 “America! History of Paintings from the New World” showcasing the best of modern American painting. Lunch in one of the typical restaurants of the old town.
In the afternoon: explore the old town with an audio guide provided by the Municipal Tourism Office (Piazza della Loggia). Explore monuments, churches and palaces, discover antique shops, high fashion boutiques, bookshops and stop off for a coffee break or to enjoy a “pirlo”, the typical Brescian aperitif. If you want to explore the city in a different way, ride one of the original trams (built to an early Twentieth Century model) for a guided visit to the major piazzas of the old town and the most significant monuments.

Walking through history
Day 2
In the morning: walk to the Castle, overlooking the city from Cidneo hill. One of the richest European collections of ancient arms and armaments (the “Luigi Marzoli” Arms Museum) is located in Mastio Visconteo, whereas it is possible to visit the Civic Museum of Italian Unification, established in 1887, in the Grande Miglio building. Lunch in a typical trattoria in the old town.
In the afternoon: visit the Tosio Martinengo Art Gallery in Piazza Moretto, rich artistic collection which proposes a voyage through the history of Brescian art from the Fourteenth to the Eighteenth Centuries, with works by Raphael and by the greatest Brescian artists: Foppa, Moretto, Romanino, Savoldo.
